Another fall favorite is the October birthstone, opal. Once hailed as the "Queen of Gems," opals are a delicate stone, with a rating of only 5.5-6.5 on the Mohs Scale of gem hardness. The opals most popularly sold are white opals, often displaying various colors called play of color. These days, the black opal can be considered more valuable than the white opal due its dark background that allows colors to "pop" more, depending on the quality of the opal.

There is much mythology surrounding opals. Some believed that opals provided the power of invisibility, making it the "Patron Stone of Thieves." Others believed that opals had healing properties, especially related to sight. Because the opal displays various colors, it is associated with different emotions and passion, where people thought the stone brought the feelings of the wearer to the surface.

Why not express your unique self with a fall jewelry trend and October opal and make them your own? Fall 2019 also marks a trend in more personalized jewelry, so be yourself and show the world who you are through your jewelry.
